State and Local Membership
Our members are part of a powerful network of teaching professionals through their involvement in state and local association activities. State associations offer annual conferences and workshops, and local associations offer special educational programming, festivals, and student competitions.
American Music Teacher
MTNA members receive our bimonthly, award-winning journal. American Music Teacher (AMT). This publication features insightful articles by leading music teachers, pedagogues, performers and advocates. AMT will motivate you and keep you up to date on the latest music-teaching advances.
National Student Competitions
The MTNA National Student Competitions are the most successful and prestigious student competitions in the country. Each year, hundreds of students from junior high to collegiate levels compete for top prizes and national recognition. Sponsored by leading music corporations, these competitions attract the finest performers in piano, strings, voice, woodwinds, brass, percussion, organ, guitar and chamber music. Composition competitions also are held for students from elementary through collegiate levels.

As an MTNA member, you will enjoy enlightening educational opportunities through our annual National and State Conferences, workshops and seminars encompassing all areas of music teaching, pedagogy, group teaching, technology, studio management, law, ethics and the latest developments in the music field.
National Certification
The MTNA Professional Certification Program provides teachers prestige, recognition and the potential for student recruitment and increased earning power while allowing teachers to enhance their professional status. The certification program exists to improve the level of professionalism within the field of music teaching and helps the public readily identify competent music teachers in their communities. Candidates must meet established criteria and successfully complete the professional certification process.
